Mid-Atlantic Council Looking For Fishery Management Specialist

The Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council (Council) is seeking candidates for the position of Fishery Management Specialist.  According to the announcement this is an exciting, interdisciplinary position working at the intersection of both fisheries management and science.

The Fishery Management Specialist will work with diverse teams of scientists, managers, commercial and recreational fishery stakeholders, and others to develop solutions to a number of challenges associated with fisheries in the Mid-Atlantic region.

This position will involve coordination and participation in a wide range of programs and projects in support of the Council’s management goals.  Specific responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting quantitative and policy analyses to provide advice related to management options under consideration by the Council.
  • Developing documents that summarize complex information and demonstrate compliance with applicable federal statutes.
  • Presenting the results of analyses to the Council, its committees, and the public.
  • Working with, and sometimes leading, multidisciplinary, multi-agency groups to address a number of cross-cutting fishery management issues related to data improvement, stock assessments, climate change, and habitat conservation.
  • Acting as a spokesperson for Council staff in discussions with the Council, Council’s committees, and the public on matters relating to proposed fishery management regulations.
