Product Spotlight: Okuma Tesoro Jigging Rods & Reels

TSR-C-681M-SP.01.HEROIf you’re on the hunt for new jigging weaponry this season, take a good look at the new Okuma Tesoro line – both spin and conventional – coming soon to your local tackle shop.

On the spin side, Okuma’s new Tesoro spinning reels are constructed with Okuma’s Alumilite body, side plate and Cyclonic Flow Rotor construction for improved strength. With an IPX-7 waterproof design, the Tesoro Spinning reels feature up to 55 pounds of drag and boast 12HPB and 1RB corrosion resistant stainless-steel bearing drive, as well as a carbonite high output DFD drag system.  Tesoro spinning reels are built with a custom titanium spool shaft to reduce flex and weight, as well as oversized brass main gear and C-6191 brass pinion gear, double supported with ball bearings.

There are five total models within the Tesoro Spinning reel lineup including an 8,000, 10,000, 14,000, 18,000 and 20,000 size. The three smaller sizes feature high speed gearing at 5.8:1 with a retrieval of 49 inches of line per turn of the handle. The two larger sizes feature 4.4:1 gear ratio and pick up close to 42 inches per handle turn, and all models have an interchangeable screw in handle system that can be changed from left to right hand retrieve.

TSR-8000HAThere’s also a Tesoro line of star drag reels featuring 6061-T6 machined aluminum frame, side plates, and spool as well as Okuma’s MSS: Mechanical Stabilizing System for a zero flex platform keeping all key components aligned, and running smoothly.  With its 17-4 grade, self-lubricating, stainless steel helical cut gearing, and multi-disc Carbonite drag system with Cal’s drag grease, the Tesoro star drag reel runs silent and smooth.  Available in size 10 and 12, each reel contains five total corrosion-resistant bearings “bathed in TSI oil for the ultimate in free spool” is how the folks at Okuma put it.  With 22 pounds of drag, both sizes feature a high speed 6.2:1 gear ratio and also include the CRC: Corrosion-Resistant Coating process to help defend against corrosion build up.

Try matching one of the new Okuma Tesoro reels with a selection from the Tesoro Jigging Rod family with seven models in both spinning and casting configurations – which includes three casting speed jig / bottom fishing rods – from 5 feet, 8 inches, to 6 feet in length, rated heavy to extra-extra heavy. The family will also feature two casting and two spinning slow pitch rods standing 6 feet, 8 inches with medium-light and medium actions.  Constructed with Okuma’s proprietary UXR: Ultimate X Reinforced Multi-Directional Fiber Technology to enhance durability, strength, and responsiveness, the Okumo Tesoro will capably withstand the rigors of intense jigging this season and for many seasons to come, spin or conventional.
