Introduced a few seasons back by this South Carolina based boat builder, the Sea Fox 328 Commander is making a name for itself as being one of the best deals on the market for a full-featured, luxury-equipped, canyon-running 32-foot center console sportfisher.
Fishing in Style and Comfort
I have been a big center console fan from day one and have owned and operated over a dozen since 1980. For me, it’s been a spartan, no-frills approach to sport fishing and my thing has always been catching big fish on light tackle, in open center consoles and typically fighting the weather and the elements at the same time. When I jumped aboard this Sea Fox 328 Commander, I realized that I might have literally been “missing the boat” all these years. From what I observed during my inspection, with a plethora of roomy fish boxes, twin livewells (55 gallon and 35 gallon in the transom cap), rod holders at every turn (13 in the standard hardtop, six in the transom cap, plus numerous gunwale-mount units), generous cockpit freeboard (27-inches aft and 30-inches amidships) and room at the dash for a pair of 16-inch MFDs (Garmin 8616XSV, with twin thru-hull Chirp transducers), this Carolina girl can fish. 
But it was the plush comfort features like a triple wide drop-down aft bench seat, a trio of cushioned up/down bolster seats with adjustable armrests at the helm, seating for a quartet of crew in the bow and room to entertain a small village of folks that reminded me of what I’ve been missing all of these years.
The big bonus on the 328 Commander is a roomy head area with 81-inches of standing headroom; great access to all of your electronics, wiring, panels, pumps and valves; a freshwater sink and porcelain toilet with pumpout and holding tank; plus a twin sized bunk with storage space down under that measures 72-inches long by 42-inches wide by 15-inches high. This is a great place to get out of the sun, change outfits, take care of business when nature calls and/or catch a quick catnap in between fishing frenzies. And my take on all these features? The Sea Fox 328 Commander proves the point that it’s possible to focus on hard core sport fishing, but do it in total comfort and luxury.

Current power options on the Sea Fox 328 Commander are twin Yamaha F300s, dual Mercury 400 V10 Verados, or a pair of Yamaha’s F450 XTO V8s. Factory tests show that she’ll hit a top speed of 49.2-mph at wide open throttle with the Yamaha F300s, spinning a pair of counter-rotating 18-inch pitch 3-blade S/S Saltwater Series II props. Optimum fuel economy occurs at 3500 rpm, where she hit 28.6-mph on the GPS while burning 18.1 gallons per hour, for a net of 1.58 mpg, which is impressive for a 32-footer with a fighting weight of 12,500-to-13,000 pounds. Bumping up the electronic throttles to four-grand, she’ll giddy-up at 33.7-mph, drinking 23.6-gph, for a net of 1.43 mpg. If you are trying to get to your offshore destination before sunrise, dialing in 4500 rpm will hit a hair short of 40 mph at 31.1 gph, for a bottom line of 1.28 mpg. Using a judicious hand on the throttles will give the 328 Commander 100-fathom range. If you opt for the fire-breathin’ 450 XTO V8s, top speed jumps up to 62 mph with best cruise at 3800 rpm, where she’ll hit 34 mph at 34 gph for 1.3 mpg. 
Notable standard features include SeaStar electronic power steering; an Ultima hardtop with recessed LED spreader lights and twin molded in storage boxes; a quartet of insulated fish boxes under the cockpit sole with overboard discharge pumps (430-qt starboard, 330-qt port, twin 235-qt amidships); a mechanical slide-out 65-qt Yeti cooler aft of the leaning post; pre-rig for a quartet of batteries (two engine and two house); a pair of 1500-gph bilge pumps; and a JL Audio sound system with two amps, twin 10-inch subwoofers and a six-pack of 7.7-inch speakers dispersed throughout the cockpit layout.
