Two days, nine species and over 50 kayak anglers will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Kayak Open this Saturday and Sunday June 8-9.
The captains meeting will be held on Friday, June 7 at Great Bay Outfitters, 955 Radio Road in Little Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Then it’s lines in at 5 a.m. Saturday, lines out by 5 p.m. on Sunday, as New Jersey’s biggest kayak fishing tournament runs across two days with a purse of over $4,000 (based on 50 anglers) and even more money up for grabs in Calcuttas.
Entry is $100 per person, with $10 and $50 calcuttas and nine qualifying species including striped bass, bluefish, black drum, red drum, black sea bass, tautog, summer flounder, sheepshead, and weakfish. All New Jersey size and bag limits must be obeyed, and any violation will result in a disqualification and forfeiture of funds.
This will be a length based tournament with the option for keeping your catch (for all species except striped bass), or practicing catch and release, this is a great tournament for everyone! As you’re entering fish for the Mid-Atlantic Open, don’t forget about your entry into the Coastal Kayak Clash as well! Then, after the tournament there will be an after-party and prize ceremony at Great Bay Outfitters at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
