The Memorial Day weekend weather was exactly what was needed to kickstart some excellent fishing around Long Island. Epic striper fishing to 50 pounds on bunker pods was the weekend highlight along the South Shore. Very consistent striper fishing of smaller fish stayed the case in Montauk. Also, at the end of the island, some bigger fluke are starting to show themselves. Fluking inside Peconic Bay is showing an uptick for the first time in years. The Long Island Sound is still filled with those Boston mackerel we’ve been hearing about, with fluke and stripers mixed in with them as well. Bluefish are still mixing in all over the place, adding excitement to striper trips.
