We are excited to announce the first annual North Atlantic Shark Tournament sponsored by The Fisherman Magazine. This tournament will fulfill your love of the sport of big game shark fishing and the need to fund the fight for our right to fish. We are committed to giving true fishermen a premier sport fishing event in the country’s port that supports, encourages and epitomizes sustainable fishing. The North Atlantic Shark Tournament is a tribute to fishing. It is a not-for-profit tournament run by avid commercial and recreational fishermen with extensive tournament experience. It is run for and by those truly concerned about having a great time while preserving fishermen’s right to fish in the setting of responsible and sustainable fishing.
The fishing days for this tournament will be July 18th and July 19th with a banquet on Saturday night and a “Spiked Coffee” farewell party the morning of July 20th. You will have the opportunity to win big money prizes and the chance to fish world class fishing grounds with outstanding shark fishing.
On top of that is a raffle is filled with significant fishing gear as well as a 13-foot Carolina skiff, trailer and motor that was generously donated by Atlantic Boats in Wareham, MA. If a state record shark is landed the captain will win a 2014 Toyota Tundra Crewmax donated by Toyota of Dartmouth!
At the two-day weigh-in there will be three species of sharks with scientists from the local marine biological campus obtaining vital information on the caught sharks. The public will also have an opportunity to ask the scientists questions and learn about these amazing creatures and their ocean habitat.
During this time there will be live music and family entertainment including a festival with vendors, boater safety drills and face painting for the kids. And even better, this fun family event is FREE to the public to attend beginning at 4pm on Friday July 18th. This event was created to bring families together on the water to enjoy Massachusetts favorite sport in an authentic New England Seaport where fishing is still a way of life.
Saturday night is the awards and fund raising banquet everyone is eagerly waiting for. There will be a tent overlooking the stunning waterfront while relaxing with cocktails from our sponsors L. Knife & Sons Lagers and Ales and Papa’s Pilar Rum. Along with the presentation of the awards, a delicious New England dinner will be served as well as live music under the stars. Awards, raffles and trading fish stories is just the icing on the cake!
The generosity of the sponsors and the great City of New Bedford as well as the fishermen will make this the tournament of the year.
